About

I travel a fair amount for work and I find that where ever I go I try and find local spots to eat dumplings.  I’ve collected memories and photos over the years so I thought I’d start documenting my dumpling eating experiences.

I was surprised to see that Din Tai Fung was not on your list, whose chefs train for three years just to make the super thin outside wrapping of soup dumplings. Din Tai Fung unfortunately has not come to New York, but there are branches in Shanghai, Beijing and even Arcadia, California, about a 40 minute drive outside of L.A. After living in China for several years, I still think Din Tai Fung still has the best dumplings I have ever had.

I have yet to try Din Tai Fung, but have heard good things about the place. We looked into going to the one in Seoul but they had zero vegetarian options on the menu and one of our group was a vegan. Even the steamed vegetables they serve are cooked with chicken broth. I with try it next time I am on the West Coast or in Shanghai.

  2. The best dumplings I personally have ever had are the juicy pork buns at M Shanghai in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Well worth crossing the river for, especially for the dumpling connoisseur.
